Hamilton Mill
Project:
Volunteers are sought for a community,
collaborative project that will highlight the history of Hamilton Mill in North
Kingstown. Participants will be invited to choose from the many varied samples
of 'narrow ' fabrics that were produced at the mill, to be
used in wall hangings and/or quilts. The pieces will be featured in an exhibit
on the history of the mill at the North Kingstown Free Library in the fall of
2008, which will include a community wide reception.
Everyone is invited to attend a slide presentation of quilts and other fabric
based art that will introduce the project to the community on Monday,
November 5, 7-8:15 pm at the North Kingstown Free Library. Come to
brainstorm and get inspired by the fabric samples the library has been
collecting. In January, Tim Cranston will give a slide lecture describing the
history of Hamilton Mill and the village the mill supported.
For further information, please contact the project director, Sandra Krupp, tel
295-2912, sarkrupp@verizon; or Susan Berman at the library, 294-3306, ext. 123.

From: Nancy Tella Subject: Quilters' Compass Request for
Help - Stolen Quilts
PLEASE HELP US TO FIND 7 STOLEN QUILTS
Dear
Quilter ,
One thing we've learned from serving a community of quilters is that when you
need help, quilters respond. We need your help.
Quilters' Compass organized a Quilt Show at the Crane Library in Quincy that was
to be on display for the month of August. We collected 35 very beautiful quilts
(mostly under 36 x 36") from 20 different quilters and the show was spectacular.
Unfortunately, we had to take the show down. Sometime Thursday morning, someone
stole 8 quilts from the exhibit. One quilt was recovered, but the rest remain
missing. Quincy Police are on the case, but 7 quilts are gone
and we are heartsick that they might be lost forever. Some of them are truly
unique and can never be replicated or replaced.
To see
pictures of the stolen quilts, please got to our website:
http://www.quilterscompass.com/stolenquilts.html
We'd like to reunite these quilts with their rightful owners, and the more
people who know, the better our chances are. Many of you spend time online with
various quilting sites, and, of course eBay. Please keep your eyes open for
any of these quilts, and if you see them, please call us immediately at:
1-866-4QUILT1
or the Quincy Police Department at:
(617) 479-1212
Thank you for your help.

Pat
Ferguson has a SECOND quilt in the $100,000 Quilting Challenge!
When
Caroline Murphy brought "Mini Big Quilt" to Pat Ferguson to quilt, Pat knew it
was a winner and encouraged Caroline to enter it in the $100,00 Quilting
Challenge Magazine and it has been accepted! Watch for Caroline's quilt, with
custom designed machine quilting by Pat, in the October 2007 issue.
Pat
says, "I have been machine quilting for Carolyn for several years and her quilts
are a long arm quilter's dream - flat, square, pressed, perfect seam
intersections, no dangling threads etc...... This quilt was exceptional
and like nothing I had ever seen before. My teacher's instinct to share
exceptional quilts with others sparked me to call Caroline. I told her that this
phenomenal quilt absolutely must be shared with the public. I told her that if
she would enter it in some shows, I would get it show ready and design some
extra special quilting for her. She humbly agreed.

New
Workshop Location!
As you know, we
have a new meeting location but needed to find separate accommodation for
our workshops. That location will be the Westminster Unitarian Church in
East Greenwich. It is located at the corner of Kenyon & First Avenue. The
hall (in the back of the Parish Hall) is large, well lighted with natural
and fluorescent light, handicapped accessible (yes, we will be able to roll
our sewing machines in) and will cost just $60 per workshop day. We will
need to set up and takedown tables and chairs ourselves. There is no room
for the storage of our irons and ironing boards so we may put those in our
auction in May.
We will be using
this space for workshops beginning with our March workshop
1/5/07
New Meeting Location!
On 1/4/07, the NBQA Board approved a new location for NBQA General Meetings.
It is St. Barnabas Church in Warwick (Apponaug). This location has ample
parking, a large, clean, well lighted space and the price is right. It is
anticipated that the first meeting in this new space will be the March
meeting, but final details including dates, maps and directions will be
posted on this website and in the Newsletter once finalized.
Unfortunately the space is not available for the daytime workshops. The
Program Committee is still working on that issue.
12/7/06
Website Addition - Workshop Supply lists for all remaining classes have
been added to the Workshop Section under Member Services. Following the
workshop description, you will see a link to "click" that will open a .pdf
file containing the supply & materials list.

Location, Location, Location!
Pat Cole and Roxanna visited the American Legion Hall in East Greenwich and
liked it very much. The hall holds 225 people seated at round tables. The
room is about twice the size of the temple. There is limited storage, enough
for our library and sound system. We would have use of a kitchen and can
make coffee. Those who want soda would have to buy it from the Legion. The
room is dark so people would need to bring lights for class or sew in the
bar area which has windows on the east and west. This venue is now on the
"short list" for out new location. Stay tuned for further information.
