Autumn Stars can
be done as a wallhanging, lap quilt, or queen size quilt. The
piecing is simple and fun; the color choices are what makes it
so stunning. The quilt was originally designed as a mystery
quilt but has become so popular that we teach it whenever groups
see it in person. *See photograph on the home page.

An original
pattern that includes a “trim to size” block that will just eat
up all those scraps you’ve been saving. Each block is then
sashed and a 4 or 8 pointed star cornerstone is inserted. The
quilt is finished off with 2 thin borders and a wide scrappy
piano key outer border with mitered corners. A number of piecing
techniques are included as are fabric and color placement. You
will finish a number of blocks and view demonstrations of all
techniques.

lovers. Store all your numerous
spools of thread in this handy,
see-thru organizer. The plastic
pouches hold anywhere from 8 to
13 spools, so you can see the
color and pull out any length of
thread whenever you like without
tangles. The pouches can also
hold sewing accessories like
scissors, needles, seam ripper,
needle threader and thimble. The
thread caddy rolls up and ties –
making it very portable for the
traveling quilter.
In this class,
Everyone will create their own
personal little nature scene!
"The Art
of Making an Appealing Nature
Scene": Learn to create 3-D
leaves, some from fabric, others
from thread, by sewing layers of
stitching linked together.
You'll be surprised at how you
can create beautiful
realistic-looking leaves!
You'll also fashion 3-D
butterflies using fabric,
thread-painting, and beads.
Explore making realistic trees
with trunks and branches using
fabric and quilting lines to
represent bark textures,
contours, and shadowing. Learn
the technique used for Miranda's
hair in my quilt, " Miranda: The Tempest," by employing free-motion embroidery on
water-soluble stabilizer
to craft a little creature.
You'll create a cozy place
for it, a corner with pond
water and a lurking spider and
web if there's time. We'll
emphasize attention to details
which play a major role in
quilts. You’ll look at new ways
of choosing colors and threads
to enhance the beauty of your
quilts. Everyone will create
her own personal little nature
scene! (Details and examples at

Christine Fries-Ureel was born
and grew up in Belgium. A
Registered Nurse with a
specialty in Pediatrics, she
worked on the Pedi Service of a
hospital in Belgium before
leaving the nursing profession
when she married her American
husband and came to the U.S. in
1982. They started a family
which grew to include six
children, all boys. They live in
Vermont.
Though the demands of being a
wife and mother put some of her
aspirations on hold, Christine
never lost a dream of becoming
involved in the world of art. In
1998 she visited the Vermont
Quilt Festival, and seeing such
beautiful quilts for the first
time changed her life forever.
She decided she had to learn
quilting!

This graphic design has so many
possibilities, it is hard to
know where to start, but we do
begin at the beginning with one
classic Pineapple block, pieced
on a vellum foundation. The
pattern has been
computer-generated, and is
accurate and easy to see and sew
on. Sewing with strips,
upside-down or on the back of
the pattern, may be new to some,
so everyone makes one practice
block. Then on to whatever
design you fancy. The choices
are two kinds of off-center
patterns, a Flying Geese
pattern, or playing with the
classic block to create new
designs.

quiltmaking for guilds and quilt
conferences in the United States
and abroad for twenty-five
years. She is an author and

for antique and contemporary

particular interest.
Her award-winning quilts have
been exhibited nationally and
internationally in quilt shows,
juried fiber and multi-media
exhibitions, and galleries. Her
quilts are included in public
and private collections and in
the American Quilter's Society
Museum in Paducah, KY. A
graduate of Cornell University,

is convincing her students to
try new methods and use unusual
colors set in classic patterns.
In Color Theory 101, students
will develop a comfort level
with color through hands on
exercises using fabric scraps,
colored pencils and construction
paper. Students of all abilities
